Wako Works of Art was established in Hatsudai, Shinjuku in 1992. In 2011, the gallery relocated to a new space in Roppongi and with expanded exhibition capacity.

The gallery has been actively involved in introducing works by prominent European artists as well as Japanese talents to the country. It represents 18 artists:Miriam Cahn, Raoul De Keyser, Noritoshi Hirakawa, Joan Jonas, Mike Kelley, Takeshi Masada, Gerhard Richter, Gregor Schneider, Andreas Slominski, Yuji Takeoka, Fiona Tan, Wolfgang Tillmans, Luc Tuymans, Henk Visch, James Welling, Christopher Williams, Nana Yokoi, and Shizuka Yokomizo

The gallery has also been active in the publication of artists’ books and exhibition catalogues as well as the book series entitled “text series” which includes essays and interviews by important art critics.
