Since 2013, IMA Media Project has been organizing the exhibition annually in special collaboration with Panasonic Corporation and its brand, LUMIX, to support and develop young talented artists who will light the way for the future of Japanese fine-art photography. This is going to be our fifth exhibit with venues in Amsterdam, Paris and Tokyo. LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020 BY JAPANESE PHOTOGRAPHERS #5 will also collaborate with international photography festivals. This year’s theme is “Portraits in the Post-Truth Era,” aiming to explore the most cutting-edge conceptual and technical trends in contemporary photography.
This year, the exhibition will feature six Japanese photographers selected by IMA Media Project. Three photographers, Kohey Kanno who reflects upon his own identity and how it relates to society, Yosuke Yajima who investigates the relationship between people and environment through anonymous portraits, and Haruyuki Shirai who questions the photographic representation of truth in his video work will show new works created especially for this exhibition using Panasonic LUMIX GH5 cameras.
Together with other photographers, Junpei Ueda, Kenji Hirasawa and Yusuke Yamatani, LUMIX MEETS BEYOND 2020 celebrates the vibrancy of contemporary photographic portraiture through the lens of young photographers. Their original, experimental installations will expand the possibilities of photographic expression. You will find fresh and challenging perspectives that redefine what photograph means in the 21st century.
