The Paris Photo ‐ Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards Exhibition in Tokyo

The globally recognized Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards is given by the Aperture Foundation, an esteemed institution in the art photography industry. This exhibition will feature 95 volumes, which have been nominated for the Awards in the last three years.

The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards was established in 2012 in recognition of the historical contribution of photo books and to promote interest and understanding of them. Each year, a juror of established photographers and curators select books from submissions of hundreds to be nominated for the Awards. For each section, a grand prix is selected and announced at Paris Photo, the world’s largest photo fair. Photography fans from around the world eagerly await the results of the Awards, which is said to influence trends in the photo book market today.

The current exhibition will include not only photo books, but also prints. It will also express the richness of the world of photography by mixing a variety of other elements. A single photo book may thus give viewers an opportunity to experience a totally new standard of value in the global photographic scene. A variety of discussions on photo books will also be held during the exhibition.

To acquaint visitors with the Aperture Foundation, an “Aperture Library,” featuring an archive of Aperture publications, will also be set up to coincide with this exhibition, which will be held simultaneously in New York at the Aperture Foundation and later travel to Australia and Los Angeles. We sincerely hope that you will take this opportunity to experience the current state of photography through the international photo book awards.
