プラダ 青山店5階にてダラ・バーンバウムの展覧会「DARA BIRNBAUM」が、6月1日（木）より開催される。
1946年、ニューヨーク生まれのダラ・バーンバウムは、ビデオアート、テレビ、音楽、通信技術の文化的な交わりを深く掘り下げることで、アートとマスメディアの概念に挑戦し続けてきたアーティストである。本展はMoMAでキュレーターを務めた経験をもつバーバラ・ロンドンによりキュレーションされ、当時アメリカのテレビで、高い人気を博した長寿ゲーム番組『Hollywood Squares』（1965年～1980年）から選んだ画像を編集したビデオインスタレーション作品《Kiss the Girls: Make Them Cry》や、ロマン派の作曲家夫婦であるクララ・シューマンとロベルト・シューマンの活動人生と、それぞれが残した異なる功績を考察したビデオインスタレーション作品《Arabesque》など、バーンバウムが1979年から2011年の間に制作した4作品が展示される。さらに1995年に制作されたサウンドインスタレーション作品《Bruckner: SymphonyNo. 5 in B-Dur》は、本展のために新しいバージョンが制作された。
さまざまなミュージシャンやコンポーザー、編集者らと共に作り上げられたこれらの作品は、バーンバウムのクラシックミュージックと現代のポップミュージック両方への興味を表すと共に、クラシックミュージックに対するさまざまな解釈への批判や、ポップカルチャーにおける女性の描写に対する鋭い考察が描かれている。新興メディアの先駆者として、長年活躍してきたバーンバウムの作品を見れる貴重な機会をお見逃しなく！
